Following an independent review into Physician Associate (PA) and Anaesthesia Associate (AA) professionals by Professor Gillian Leng CBE – initially commissioned in November 2024 – the Leng Review was successfully published in July 2025.
BAUS has thoroughly, and robustly, reviewed the findings within the report and taken the view that as an organisation, we will fully endorse the Leng Review and all of the recommendations that are set within the review.
In addition BAUS makes the following additional recommendations:
- It must be voluntary supervision for the PA by the supervising colleague;
- There must be a job plan with allocations for the supervising colleague; and
- There must be training for the role for the supervising colleague.
Through our endorsement of the Leng Review and its recommendations, BAUS reaffirms its commitment to ensuring clarity of roles, accountability, and patient-centred care across all areas of urological practice.
We are committed to supporting safe, effective, and collaborative models of care that uphold the highest standards of clinical governance and patient safety.
